What is an Acu-Doula?

An Acu-Doula is a licensed Acupuncturist, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Doctor & Certified Doula that merges two traditional services to support birthing mothers and families.

Acupuncture and TCM is an ancient medicine dating back at least 2,000 years. It has traditionally supported women through every phase of their pregnancy and postpartum journey. This ancient branch of medicine uses a holistic approach to supporting birthing mothers and families. We use acupuncture, herbal medicine, and cupping to support patients. 

Similarly, a Doula is a birth worker who supports birthing mothers and families before, during, and after the birth of a child. This profession is dedicated to maintaining birth as a sacred right of passage each mother encounters to bring their child earthside. Doulas provide birthing support throughout the entire laboring process. We help laboring moms get into laboring positions that help make birthing easier, educate them on making informed medical decisions, and help their clients advocate for their rights in the birth setting. Studies show doulas help reduce stress, anxiety, pain, and can even reduce cesarean rates by helping the birthing mother feel safe and supported. 

An Acu-Doula is able to provide a full spectrum of holistic care. When we are hired to provide both acupuncture and doula support we are able to provide a one-of-a-kind natural medicine experience to each family.
